Isra School of Paramedics [ISP]
Introduction
The paramedical staff, along with doctors and nurses, forms an important cadre of health workers.
Unavailability of human resources, particularly of paramedical staff, of good quality and inadequate number is the major hindrance in providing and sustaining effective healthcare to communities.
Isra School of Paramedics was established in 2001 under the authority of Government of Sindh, Ministry of Health letter #: S.M.F/1-33/97. It is a constituent body of Faculty of Medicine and Allied Medical Sciences of Isra University.
Objectives
To prepare a cadre of health technicians and workers who can effectively assist senior health professionals in the delivery of quality healthcare services for all types of healthcare delivery system from peripheral to tertiary level.
To introduce modern methods of
Teaching and training in all fields of medical technology.
Technologies
Paramedic training programs are offered in the following technologies:
Dispensing of Medicines
Operation Theatre
Clinical Laboratory
Blood Transfusion
X-ray
Ultrasound
ECG
Anesthesia
ICU/CCU
Ophthalmology
Pediatrics
Dental Surgery
Admissions
Yearly intake of candidates (male and female alternatively) who have passed Matric with science group. Preference is given to FSc qualified candidates. The candidates have to sit in written entry test followed by interview. To provide incentive the students are awarded monthly stipend throughout the course.
Training
The training program is pursued in semester-wise schedule of Isra University calendar. The first semester covers basic subjects like general anatomy, general physiology, biochemistry, pathology, pharmacology and English language. They are also rotated throughout the hospital departments to familiarize them with departmental functioning. In the second semester students are assigned to department of their specific technology. Training on most modern equipment is emphasized in the departments. In order to inculcate punctuality eighty percent attendance during semester is mandatory for sitting in annual examination.
Examinations
Students are given monthly Continuous Assesstment Tests (CAT) followed by the Semester Examination at the end of each semester. They have to sit and pass annual examination of Sindh Medical Faculty Board to qualify for the diploma.
Future plan
It is planned to launch two year diploma program in near future followed by a four year B.Sc in Medical Technology.
