Ophthalmologist by profession, he graduated from Dow Medical College in 1962, obtained DO from London University in 1966 and FRCS from Edinburgh in 1968. He has been associated with Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center since 1970 and superannuated in 1999 as professor and chair of the department. He was instrumental in development of the department of ophthalmology at JPMC to the level of tertiary eye-care purely through philanthropic contributions. He has won several awards for his contribution and service to community in eye care. He has participated in international seminars. He held WHO fellowships for training outside Pakistan in Prevention of Blindness and Evaluation and Assessment of Medical Education. His major contribution has been in the prevention of blindness at national and international levels. He has remained National Coordinator for WHO program of Prevention of Blindness from 1988-94 and was instrumental in conducting first national survey of “Blindness & its Causes in Pakistan”. He has tackled this problem from all directions creating awareness, training and developing of manpower and providing treatment in hospitals and in free eye camps. He has been severally cited by national professional bodies for his outstanding contribution towards Blindness Prevention Program in the country and abroad. Presently, he is holding the position of Chancellor, Isra University. He is incharge of Isra Blindness Control Program and Director of Ibrahim Eye Hospital. He is a founding member of Isra Islamic Foundation and currently serving on its Board of Directors. |
