A gold-medallist of the University of Sindh, he received his Master's and Ph.D. Degrees in Engineering Geology from the Imperial College of Science and Technology, London in 1965 and 1968 respectively. He has more than 35 years experience in application of geology to civil engineering practice covering buildings, roads, bridges, dams and tunnels, and site selections for human settlements, nuclear power plants and sanitary landfills. He has expertise in prediction and zoning of floods, engineering assessment and mitigation of earthquakes, floods, landslides, and other geological hazards; exploration, development and monitoring of contaminated sites, pollution control and water quality; environmental implications of mine waste disposal and mine safety requirements. Dr. Kazi has held senior positions in the West Pakistan University of Engineering and Technology Lahore, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro, Asian Institute of Technology (formerly SEATO Graduate School), Bangkok, United Nations (UNESCO), King Abdul Aziz University, Jeddah, and Saudi Arabian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources. He has remained associated with many professional organizations at the international level, including American Society of Civil Engineers, Southeast Asian Society for Geotechnical Engineering, International Society for Rock Mechanics, International Society for Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering, and Association of Geoscientists for International Development. In Pakistan, Dr. Kazi has served on a number of academic and professional bodies such as a Member of the Board of Governors of Hyderabad Development Authority, Member of the Syndicate of Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering Sciences & Technology, Member of the Selection Board of Sindh University, Member of the Provincial Local Government Commission, Government of Sindh, Member of the Board of Governors of Pakistan Institute of Engineering & Applied Sciences, Member of the Advisory Board of Environment, Government of Pakistan, Member Board of Trustees of Endowment Fund, Government of Sindh, Advisor of the Pakistan Nuclear Regulator Authority, Government of Pakistan, and so forth. He has published more than 50 technical papers, and is also listed in the internationally credited, MARQUIS, "Who is Who in Science and Engineering" and “Who is Who in the world”. He was declared as “Man of the year 2002” for his services in the field of education, on the occasion of the 13th Star Awards Ceremony, a Project of the South Asia Publications. Presently, he is holding the position of Vice Chancellor in Isra University, Hyderabad. He is a Founding member of the Foundation and currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Isra Islamic Foundation. |
